World Eaters Dark Apostle WIP

Here is the tacked together WIP of my World Eaters Dark Apostle. The head is still not final. May go with a helmet, may stick with this head, may use another helmetless head. For the belt buckle I am deciding between a Chaos star with Khorne symbol or another skull like thing. Also, there is giant Khorne icon with skull-speaker that will go on the backpack. There will be sacrificial knife in the left hand, in a reverse grip. The right hand will have the Accursed Crozius.

As anyone that may follow my blog can see, I have repurposed the 'skullderpads' from an older WIP that I never finished. The model is based on the FW Traitor Legion Librarian model mixed with bits from the Bloodsecrator (seriously, who names these AoS guys?)and various other kits. Still waiting for all the Crozius bits to arrive.

True Scale Skull Champ

Okay, I can't not try some True Scale World Eaters. So here is my first attempt at a Skull Champion. This is super WIP right now. As a matter of fact, I am not even giving him the double handed weapon, but will use the right arm from the Dark Angel halberd to give him a bit more of a dynamic axe swing pose. I have a couple more True Scale World Eaters in the queue right now as well, just waiting for the bits to arrive to get started. Oddly enough, I have been having the damnedest time getting some key bits.

Long time voyeur, first time WIP'er (for this paint style)

So many ages ago, when White Dwarf was probably either still in the double digits or just graduating into the triples, I saw the now ancient Dark Angels Captain painted up in metallic green. My young mind was blown. I loved it so much. At that time, I was only really into Warhammer Fantasy however, I kept flipping back to that page. Unfortunately, I cannot find the pic of that paint job online, only a bare pewter version of the model as seen below.

Recently, Forgeworld made that image come flooding back to the front of my mind by doing a superb metallic green/blue on the Alpha Legion. That brought me back to the World Eaters and an idea I abandoned long ago. Khorne Berzerkers with dark metallic red armor. Armor that looked like it had been stained red over 10,000 years of savage butchery while vying for the attention of their cruel and bloody god. In a moment of fever dream like impulse, I pulled out the model of Zhufor that was purchased for me as a birthday gift about 9 years back and went to work. Please keep in mind, this is a test piece, not meant to be a final 'show quality' paint job. I do see somethings I might do a little differently to make some of the features, such as the helmet, pop a little more. Also, there is still bare primer left, I do intent to finish the model...

For the metallic red, the model was primed black, dry brushed with brass, highlighted with liberator gold, then washed with earthshade, black and red. Then highlighted again in liberator gold and washed red. I really wanted to capture a dark an worn look to the armor, rather than some squeaky clean new loyalist scum's scheme.

The blog awakens...

It has been awhile since my last update.

I was having a crisis of faith trying to figure out what the point was in continuing with the hobby. The cost has gone up dramatically, I am no longer near my old game/hobby group, the idea of getting any games in seemed futile and last but not least life just seemed to be getting in the way. During the last year I had still been visiting hobby sites and reading news. But I just couldn't seem to shake the apathy. After reading several different hobby blogs that were dedicated to just modeling interesting figures without the stress of in game usability (specifically Iron Sleet ) and seeing all these beautiful new GW kits, I started to feel the pulse come back.

I have picked up some bits and my trusty, if somewhat dull, x-acto and started cutting on several projects at once. As a teaser, here is a WIP of my Nurgle aligned Dark Mecanicum Dominus, with a couple of his Festering Embryites;
