Most importantly, I started work on the Accursed Crozius. This is a combination of the 30k Rampagers Meteor Hammer, the Minotaurs Chaplain Crozius and a Skullcrusher hand & haft attached to a Red Butcher arm. I have the backpack mostly worked out, but there are a ton of little things to do to it before I can attach it at this point, even for a WIP shot. Anyway, enjoy...<p>

The head is still not final. May go with a helmet, may stick with this head, may use another helmetless head. For the belt buckle I am deciding between a Chaos star with Khorne symbol or another skull like thing. Also, there is giant Khorne icon with skull-speaker that will go on the backpack.
There will be sacrificial knife in the left hand, in a reverse grip. The right hand will have the Accursed Crozius.<p>
As anyone that may follow my blog can see, I have repurposed the 'skullderpads' from an older WIP that I never finished. The model is based on the FW Traitor Legion Librarian model mixed with bits from the Bloodsecrator (seriously, who names these AoS guys?)and various other kits. Still waiting for all the Crozius bits to arrive.<p>

So here is my first attempt at a Skull Champion. This is super WIP right now. As a matter of fact, I am not even giving him the double handed weapon, but will use the right arm from the Dark Angel halberd to give him a bit more of a dynamic axe swing pose. I have a couple more True Scale World Eaters in the queue right now as well, just waiting for the bits to arrive to get started. Oddly enough, I have been having the damnedest time getting some key bits.<p>

Wanted to go for something more fleshy and less cartoon bad guy red. Did a red base, dry brushing with khaki up to bone then washing with flesh wash and red wash. Did some spot washes with black. Any way, this is a test piece and was painted fairly quickly. Oh, also I was listening to black metal, so I gave it some corpse paint around it's eyes...<p>

My young mind was blown. I loved it so much. At that time, I was only really into Warhammer Fantasy however, I kept flipping back to that page. Unfortunately, I cannot find the pic of that paint job online, only a bare pewter version of the model as seen below.<p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MS5Mco30FfI/WGlWL9kmscI/AAAAAAAABMQ/NfWOtPUXPNc9yyKe6lcDhyDI_oF71wCngCLcB/s1600/DAclassic.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MS5Mco30FfI/WGlWL9kmscI/AAAAAAAABMQ/NfWOtPUXPNc9yyKe6lcDhyDI_oF71wCngCLcB/s320/DAclassic.jpg" width="320" height="320" /></a></div>
Recently, Forgeworld made that image come flooding back to the front of my mind by doing a superb metallic green/blue on the Alpha Legion. That brought me back to the World Eaters and an idea I abandoned long ago. Khorne Berzerkers with dark metallic red armor. Armor that looked like it had been stained red over 10,000 years of savage butchery while vying for the attention of their cruel and bloody god. In a moment of fever dream like impulse, I pulled out the model of Zhufor that was purchased for me as a birthday gift about 9 years back and went to work. Please keep in mind, this is a test piece, not meant to be a final 'show quality' paint job. I do see somethings I might do a little differently to make some of the features, such as the helmet, pop a little more. Also, there is still bare primer left, I do intent to finish the model...<p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1_3tbKucpuA/WGlWhRGaucI/AAAAAAAABMU/qWom_MYtvJk1aCwE-9_cLWvA6XGf0dQ3wCLcB/s1600/Zuhfor1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1_3tbKucpuA/WGlWhRGaucI/AAAAAAAABMU/qWom_MYtvJk1aCwE-9_cLWvA6XGf0dQ3wCLcB/s320/Zuhfor1.jpg" width="320" height="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rFCsfFtDQqI/WGlWj2yDMqI/AAAAAAAABMc/DtYklVGXLDwEKzJNMIfW3b0yjHPVIzwhwCLcB/s1600/Zuhfor2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rFCsfFtDQqI/WGlWj2yDMqI/AAAAAAAABMc/DtYklVGXLDwEKzJNMIfW3b0yjHPVIzwhwCLcB/s320/Zuhfor2.jpg" width="320" height="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kgmUc5rqT5Y/WGlWjXbPDZI/AAAAAAAABMY/_7hz7tM4bYk8qFpvQ7bv0X3wlbNB82ymQCLcB/s1600/Zuhfor3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kgmUc5rqT5Y/WGlWjXbPDZI/AAAAAAAABMY/_7hz7tM4bYk8qFpvQ7bv0X3wlbNB82ymQCLcB/s320/Zuhfor3.jpg" width="320" height="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Sdp_zREdIHk/WGlWksjIdWI/AAAAAAAABMg/wU8pOX3E8_0ymx9ZfZvK8XSFWKi8o8vPACLcB/s1600/Zuhfor4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Sdp_zREdIHk/WGlWksjIdWI/AAAAAAAABMg/wU8pOX3E8_0ymx9ZfZvK8XSFWKi8o8vPACLcB/s320/Zuhfor4.jpg" width="320" height="320" /></a></div>
For the metallic red, the model was primed black, dry brushed with brass, highlighted with liberator gold, then washed with earthshade, black and red. Then highlighted again in liberator gold and washed red. I really wanted to capture a dark an worn look to the armor, rather than some squeaky clean new loyalist scum's scheme.amaximushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04166777143772071808noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6608044855018350110.post-51958234678768953232016-10-16T19:41:00.000-07:002016-10-16T19:41:49.542-07:00Take two of these and call me in the morning...I have only been making incremental progress on multiple minis. This last month or so has been pretty busy.<p>
Anyway, here is a WIP of a Nurgle aligned Dr./Chirurgeon. He, and his little servo-assistant will accompany a rogue -]|[- that I am also working on and will reveal soon.<p>
I am planning on adjusting the brass-rod that the servo-assistant is attached to, in order to make it sway a little bit back. It is not glued at this point however, and the weight of the servo-head will not let it stand up. So, as soon as I am less tired and have a little less beer in me, I will make the adjustment.

So, I did a bits trade with <a href="https://eternalhunt.wordpress.com">Krautscientist</a> over at Eternal Hunt. Originally, I was going to use a demon-hammer head on this conversion as I thought it would be super cool and fluffy. But then Krautscientist waved this Dragon Ogre mace in my face and showed me it's scale and I couldn't help but bite. As I am sure he will tell you, I am pretty stubborn once I have my mind set about how I am going to convert a mini, but dammit, if he wasn't right about this bit being perfect! Thanks man!<p>
At the moment, the mace bits are just pinned in. This isn't the final angle, also I will have to do some Green-stuffing, bleh. In addition, I added a MkIII vambrace to the gauntlet to see how that would work. I feel like it ties in perfectly. Now all that is left is figuring out servo arms configurations...

Unholy crap, do I love these things.<p>
First off, I would like to say that Master Crafted Miniatures is top notch with their customer service. I purchased these pads during a time when they were really busy filling orders due to a sale they were running. Some of my purchase needed to be cast in to order to fill my order. Any questions I asked via e-mail were promptly answered by Ben with detailed ETA's and deadlines, which was actually a real fast turn around. I very much appreciated that, even though I was not in a super hurry. Also, once they did ship, it only took about a week for them to arrive. This company is in the UK, I live in TX. It sometimes takes longer for me to get letters from my mom who only lives in Oregon. So from a professionalism and shipping standpoint, Master Crafted gets a 5 out of 5 from me. Honestly, I am often hard to please in this category.<p>
Once I got my package it was double bubble wrapped, in a zip lock baggie and then packed in a small, fairly sturdy box. The material was packed tightly so there was no jostling of the items during shipping. I cannot say the same for other UK based resin mini companies... Another 5 out of 5 from me<p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ftNeoSEhpT8/V69XQkLnaoI/AAAAAAAABC0/ON_ZnrjiAkkxMhfgqu_zYRrCWg-EtQ7LwCLcB/s1600/FullSizeRender-3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ftNeoSEhpT8/V69XQkLnaoI/AAAAAAAABC0/ON_ZnrjiAkkxMhfgqu_zYRrCWg-EtQ7LwCLcB/s320/FullSizeRender-3.jpg" width="240" height="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kJsX_c-X7vY/V69XQmXqBSI/AAAAAAAABC4/6tZfjaJXva4kCCqTMwn6LMW8m09RjbpigCLcB/s1600/IMG_8797.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kJsX_c-X7vY/V69XQmXqBSI/AAAAAAAABC4/6tZfjaJXva4kCCqTMwn6LMW8m09RjbpigCLcB/s320/IMG_8797.JPG" width="240" height="320" /></a></div><p>
The pads themselves are 5 to a sprue. The sprue is a nice, thick brick of resin that will not warp, bend or break easily which will help to secure your parts during shipping. The shoulder pads are then attached to the sprue from the whole bottom of the pad. This attachment piece is thinner than the pads and cuts really easily from the sprue.<p>

The quality of the resin is very high. It is in that sweet spot between firm and pliable, not brittle but also not soft. The details are crisp and pristine, with very little to no flash and no warping. Also, the quality of the studs is on point. There is no flash to clean up, not odd fill in and lastly, no gaps between the studs and the pad face. Amazing! The only flash I had to cut away was at the bottom here between the base of the pads and that was very thin and easy to clean.<p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-L9Bqr1Mu2mA/V69ZYDvu7RI/AAAAAAAABDU/R6x1NCOc5dwWaOjWb5M0tEDXDNi1kPEOACLcB/s1600/IMG_8912.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-L9Bqr1Mu2mA/V69ZYDvu7RI/AAAAAAAABDU/R6x1NCOc5dwWaOjWb5M0tEDXDNi1kPEOACLcB/s320/IMG_8912.JPG" width="320" height="240" /></a></div><p>
To remove the pads it is as easy as taking a sharp exact-o and cutting right where the pads meet the sprue. That will leave a significant chunk of resin left to clean off the pads however, this is a real easy task using a hobby knife and round file.<p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-k-AwSBCSwBU/V69agnPxu9I/AAAAAAAABDw/01_Nym6pLYcW1mqQu8ZunlO-v5cR8-AYwCLcB/s1600/FullSizeRender-6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-k-AwSBCSwBU/V69agnPxu9I/AAAAAAAABDw/01_Nym6pLYcW1mqQu8ZunlO-v5cR8-AYwCLcB/s320/FullSizeRender-6.jpg" width="271" height="320" /></a></div><p>
I basically slowly cut away the filler until there was just a little flash-sized amount left and then filed that down with a round file. Because of the curved shape of the bottom part I took extra care not to cut too fast or too hard. I didn't want to cut into the pads, only the excess resin. (I know not to cut towards my thumb, I am just holding the pad up with the knife in it for the pic. Remember to always cut away from you.)<p>

Now, how do they look compared to other pads you may ask? Here they are next to a Chaos Space Marine Terminator pad from Games Workshop and a MkIII Marine pad from Forgeworld. As you can see, they are a little bit bigger than both. I am curious how the other, large, true-scale style pads from Master Crafted size up. I may order some of those next, especially interested in the large pads with spikes.<p>

Here is a pic of them on a True-Scale Iron Warrior Warmsmith I am converting. Being that I purchased these for True-scaling I am thrilled with how they look on the larger scale Space Marine.<p>

Lastly, the actual model I purchased them for, the Death Guard Dark Apostle. These really help this model stand out and make him look massive and menacing, IMO.<p>

Still needs some cables going from the speakers to the backpack as well as some random cables from body to backpack. Also considering some little spikes and shrunken heads. I was originally going to attach the shrunken heads to the curved horns/spikes coming out of the arm under the shoulder pads, but I think that may be too much going on in that one area. Shoulder pads are from <a href="https://mastercrafted.co.uk/product-category/infantry-components/shoulder-pads/large/page/2/">Master Crafted Miniatures</a> large should pads section, I totally love these things.<p>
This piece is very much inspired by the work of Adrian Smith.<p>

First up, the mace head came in the mail for the Death Guard Dark Apostle. I think I may shorten the haft just a smidge. I am currently waiting on some 3rd Party shoulder pads to arrive from across the pond for this guy. Once those get here the rest of the build will speed along like a swarm of flys. There will be lots of tubes and severed heads added to him as well.<p>
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-T3_FKn9a7Tk/V6NFV4ma3PI/AAAAAAAABAo/KPW_Qr3dfF449RidHa2H8LC1ggCDgaYAwCLcB/s1600/image2%2B%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-T3_FKn9a7Tk/V6NFV4ma3PI/AAAAAAAABAo/KPW_Qr3dfF449RidHa2H8LC1ggCDgaYAwCLcB/s320/image2%2B%25282%2529.JPG" width="240" height="320" /></a><p>
Next up is the tacked together WIP for an Iron Warriors True-Scale Warsmith. As soon as I saw <a href="https://eternalhunt.wordpress.com/">Krautscientist's</a> amazing <a href="https://eternalhunt.wordpress.com/2016/05/12/inquisitor-28-from-cataphractii-to-chapter-master/">Chapter Master</a> made from the Betrayal at Calth Cataphractii Captain, I knew I needed to make a true-scale Iron Warrior out of the same body. The Dark Angels weapon is a place-holder for the Demon Hammer I am envisioning for him.<p>

The Drone will need some green stuff pustules and wounds as well as more tubes and cables, but also, it will need thrusters. Still working on that;<p>

This is the Dr. He will be in the entourage of the Rogue Inquisitor I am working on...<p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rwE18h9jDnY/V3Bkg9myigI/AAAAAAAAA7s/NCewThgigaQfTu9fLDqSkzVt1GNDOsLigCLcB/s1600/image1-5.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rwE18h9jDnY/V3Bkg9myigI/AAAAAAAAA7s/NCewThgigaQfTu9fLDqSkzVt1GNDOsLigCLcB/s320/image1-5.JPG" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-eFnIwhOpLGY/V3Bkg1L6lWI/AAAAAAAAA7w/RyYTqnHvHqI88Y0N38B2wiMlEJ8zgbUwQCLcB/s1600/image2-4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-eFnIwhOpLGY/V3Bkg1L6lWI/AAAAAAAAA7w/RyYTqnHvHqI88Y0N38B2wiMlEJ8zgbUwQCLcB/s320/image2-4.JPG" /></a></div>
Here is the Dr's assistant. This will be mounted on the Dr;<p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Axp0uNPXhSg/V3BljpdYpXI/AAAAAAAAA8c/-XfHi-uvo_YXwwVXjJq8iplghLYm8MH6gCLcB/s1600/image3-3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Axp0uNPXhSg/V3BljpdYpXI/AAAAAAAAA8c/-XfHi-uvo_YXwwVXjJq8iplghLYm8MH6gCLcB/s200/image3-3.JPG" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-616nOca-XEQ/V3Bljg5YIOI/AAAAAAAAA8Y/jXq7i4fI40gZB4cDGao3CuqYmQcyUHF2gCLcB/s1600/image4-2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-616nOca-XEQ/V3Bljg5YIOI/AAAAAAAAA8Y/jXq7i4fI40gZB4cDGao3CuqYmQcyUHF2gCLcB/s200/image4-2.JPG" /></a></div>
And, a Death Guard Dark Apostle, the smoking censor on the cursed croxius is just a place holder until I get the bit I want for it. As much as I think it looks awesome, the Dominus already has a weapon like it;<p>

I was having a crisis of faith trying to figure out what the point was in continuing with the hobby. The cost has gone up dramatically, I am no longer near my old game/hobby group, the idea of getting any games in seemed futile and last but not least life just seemed to be getting in the way. During the last year I had still been visiting hobby sites and reading news. But I just couldn't seem to shake the apathy. After reading several different hobby blogs that were dedicated to just modeling interesting figures without the stress of in game usability (specifically <a href="https://ironsleet.com">Iron Sleet</a> ) and seeing all these beautiful new GW kits, I started to feel the pulse come back.<p>
I have picked up some bits and my trusty, if somewhat dull, x-acto and started cutting on several projects at once. As a teaser, here is a WIP of my Nurgle aligned Dark Mecanicum Dominus, with a couple of his Festering Embryites;

Not only can I not find the bits I need to finish the Maulerfiend but I cannot even find the bits for my various other projects...
Tzeentch, once these are built, I am coming for you.
I will post progress as soon as I have something...amaximushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04166777143772071808noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6608044855018350110.post-32977013652982940402015-04-25T14:11:00.000-07:002015-04-25T14:56:09.115-07:00Some Maulerfiend progress <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-aiGzhe-VuIE/VTwCmU_KmDI/AAAAAAAAAwo/dZy_j_lQAMI/s1600/maulerfiend.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-aiGzhe-VuIE/VTwCmU_KmDI/AAAAAAAAAwo/dZy_j_lQAMI/s320/maulerfiend.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pv6X2moZ-vU/VTwCp6BjlZI/AAAAAAAAAw0/IopCXR6pli0/s1600/Maulerfiend-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pv6X2moZ-vU/VTwCp6BjlZI/AAAAAAAAAw0/IopCXR6pli0/s320/Maulerfiend-1.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2xqiuYL0WYE/VTwCp1ONleI/AAAAAAAAAww/aLpOXNH--TY/s1600/Maulerfiend-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2xqiuYL0WYE/VTwCp1ONleI/AAAAAAAAAww/aLpOXNH--TY/s320/Maulerfiend-2.jpg" /></a></div>

Like my feelings on the Defiler, I was never happy with the Maulerfiend that GW put out. Looked too much like a He-man toy for my tastes. As soon as I saw the Adeptus Mechanicus Onager Dunecrawler I knew I had found the base for what I wanted. So, I ordered some bits and picked up the Dunecrawler this morning. My idea is to build something that looks like a larger Bloodslaughterer using the front portion of the Maulerfiend torso, the Heldrake arms and the Dunecrawler legs. It should look something like this shitty sketch;
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qTNR-FOlrtg/VTMNFwqRCGI/AAAAAAAAAwE/oAlTMUkasec/s1600/FullSizeRender-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qTNR-FOlrtg/VTMNFwqRCGI/AAAAAAAAAwE/oAlTMUkasec/s320/FullSizeRender-2.jpg" /></a></div>
I started filing and cutting on the torso today. Trying to figure out how to fill out that back portion and how the hell to attach the body to the legs;

<p>I will post more WIPs as I go.</p>
Oh, also, I ordered this guy. Of course, I am not going to build him as is, but soon enough I will turn him into something far more foul...;

Though I have always liked the model I often felt like it lacked a certain sense of movement and as new plastic models started getting released for chaos his proportions started to seem 'off.' I had toyed around with a few different ideas, including a WIP that I posted not too long ago. Then Forge World released Kharn the Bloody, the 30k version of my 40k favorite. It had all the size and movement I could want. So I decided to fuse the two and add a few other bits for good measure. Luckily, despite all the naysaying, the 40k version was released in Finecast. So much easier to cut up. Anyway, here is my WIP so far;

Just got some bits in the mail for this project I started a while back but didnt know where to go. Some of the new plastic kits gave me inspiration.
I was inspired by the artwork of Adrian Smith. I also wanted to give this Terminator Lord a slightly different look. I went for an armor look that kind of resembled Bloodletters.
Anyways, here are the tacked together bits, they still need cleaned and detailed since this is still highly WIP'd.

Going to replace the Dark Angels Halberd with this Chaos Halberd.
